FinPro Conference 2015

196 Delegates attended the 2015 FinPro Confernece, held at the beautiful Peppers The Sands Torquay.

The Conference commenced on Wednesday 11 November with the Opening Dinner. Following a warm welcome from the Deputy Mayor of Surf Coast Shire, Cr Clive Goldsworthy, a relaxed and excited group of delegates and sponsors sat back and listened to the inspirational speaker, Abdi Aden who spoke to the Conference Theme – Change Adapt and Thrive. Abdi has certainly done this himself and he explored his past to give a commentary on how the group around him could also Change, Adapt and Thrive in their own work and person lives.

Proceedings on the main day of the conference were busy with 8 speakers scheduled for the day, speaking on a range of issues and topics from the Economy to Innovation, Preparing Long Term Financial Plans, Integrity Frameworks and Fraud. The day was ‘lightened’ a little with a wonderful presentation by Robyn Moore on how to make communications count. There were certainly many laughs during her session that helped the afternoon fly by!

A very enjoyable Theme Dinner followed on Thursday night. At least 80% of the 240 dinner guests made a spectacular effort in dressing to the theme which made for a very interesting night. The Band, Revive 80’s performed brilliantly as always and the dance floor was never vacant.

Friday proceedings for the conference were quite technical with discussions on the impending Rate Capping Legislation as well as the provision of an update from both VAGO and LGV. The day ended though with a more ‘light-hearted’ approach with Dr Tony Villano giving a lively and very humerous talk on ‘The Future of Local Government in Australia’. Though not sure whether this was a little ‘tongue in cheek’ , his presentation at least left everyone on a ‘high’ to depart Torquay.
