New Special Interest Groups – LTFP and Service Planning

Following our Senior Leaders’ Summit last year, we are setting up two Special Interest Groups to progress two of the priorities identified:

• Long Term Financial Plan Working Group
• Service Reviews Working Group

We would like to invite members to express their interest in being involved in developing resources for members.

LTFP Working Group

We are looking for 6-8 councils to join the working group, running from July – October. Those interested will need to be available for a one-hour meeting each fortnight for the duration of the project. We invite representation from Metro and Rural/Regional Councils and would like members that have budget development experience such as Management Accountants and Senior Business Partners.

For members that want to contribute but don’t have time, please send Lucy your budget development guidelines for comparison as these will form the basis of our planning document.

First meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 2 July 2026 @1.00pm.

Service Planning Working Group

We are planning to get involved with the Service Planning SIG run by LGPro, however we would like to have a good idea on what we think is important from a finance perspective in service planning.

We are looking for 6-8 councils to join the working group, running from August – February. Those interested will need to be available for a one-hour meeting each fortnight for the duration of the project. 

We invite representation from Metro and Rural/Regional Councils and welcome participation from those with experience in service reviews, service planning or service-based budgeting, as well as anyone keen to strengthen the connection between services and financial outcomes. This opportunity is not limited to finance staff, colleagues from corporate performance, service planning, or related areas are also encouraged to get involved. Please feel free to share this opportunity with others in your organisation who may be interested.
